Outcome PA. 9.1
Students will watch a video on ancient Greece to get a basis for the origins of democracy. This will help serve as a foundation for this study on government.
- Indicator B) - Investigate and classify the systems of government in place at different periods in the history of the societies studied (e.g., democracy, consensus, monarchy, autocracy, military regime).
- Indicator D) - Explain the reasons underlying the existence of a particular system of government at a specific moment in the history of the societies studied.
Students will watch a video on ancient Greece to get a basis for the origins of democracy. This will help serve as a foundation for this study on government.

Introduction to various forms of government
- Indicator A) - Differentiate the essential characteristics of various systems of government, including democracy, consensus, monarchy, autocracy, and military regime.
Students will examine various forms of government, share their knowledge in a jigsaw activity, look at examples of governments around the world, and test themselves so as to be confident with terminology.

Students will attempt to take what they know about democracy and dictatorships to develop their own city-state. Students will be challenged to experiment with ways of decision making that may be different from ways typically done in Canada.
